Flash Dance: Waltz of the Flowers
Sunday, August 12 , 2007, 5:30 – 8:30 pm

Ever hear of "flash mobs"? They're spontaneous gatherings that bring people together on short notice for a brief period of time . Well, here's your chance to join dancers and musicians for a "flash dance" – an opportunity to waltz or contra in a public place . For more on "Flash Dances" see: http://www.childgrove.org/flashdances/flashdance_howto.htm
Place: Missouri Botanical Garden
The Missouri Botanical Garden was closed to the public that night; so it was our chance to "dance like nobody was looking". We waltzed. We walked. We waltzed some more. We waltzed in the fountain, we waltzed on the path, we waltzed for the roses. And they waltzed for us.
It was miserably hot that day - St Louis had had 100+° weather for days on end, but we managed to find ways to keep cool.

Ever hear of a progressive dinner? Well, this was a progressive dance. We danced a few dances at each venue, then moved on to the next.
Here are some pictures from the evening:

How to find us:
Online map is here: Visitor Guide (PDF, 2.2M)Driving directions to Missouri Botanical Garden (pdf)
Here is a Google map if the pdf takes too long to load.
Even if you're familiar with the Garden, you may benefit by printing out a map so you can find us more easily. We'll be a moving target, but what great scenery you'll pass as you find us!
NEW ENTRANCE
The Garden asked us to use the new side entrance. (As you drive onto the MBG property, make a left when you're right in front of the main building, then a quick right onto the smaller parking lot. See green circle and arrow , below.)

Click on the picture for a larger version. It prints nicely if you set it to "Landscape".
Plan A: Here was our initial path, outlined in yellow on the map, and subject to change. We'll probably be dancing:
A) in the brand new Ottoman Garden
B) near some of the Chapungu Sculptures
C) in the Maze (nope. closed)
D) near a playful fountain (YES!)
E) near the Amazon Water Lilies
F) inside a beautiful rose garden
Life doesn't get much better than this.
What makes this place special?
How often do you get a chance to dance in one of the most beautiful gardens in the world? The Missouri Botanical Garden is a world-class facility. Even better, how often do you get to have the place to yourself?
