5th Saturday Community Dance on Saturday December 29, 2018!

Contra is coming to St Charles county , and you’re invited.

If the holidays stress you out have we got a gift for you! Leave all the running and shopping and cooking behind and join us for delightful DE-stressing: Fun mixers & contras - huge dance floor - sprightly music featuring the amazing Roger and The Nethertones - playful calls by Mac McKeever - glo sticks to light you up.

Recommended for ages 8 & up.

Younger children welcome with parental supervision.

Potluck snacks welcome.

Requested donation $7 for adults; $3 for children age 8-17. Maximum per family is $20.

This kind of dancing is fun & friendly - especially if you think of yourself as a nondancer. (We can change that!)

LOCATION: All of our dances are at The Monday Club at 37 S. Maple Street, Webster Groves, MO, unless otherwise indicated.

Our Saturday contra dance is on the third Saturday, and the Waltz Party is the next day.

About once a month we have a three-dance weekend. Look for it!

Elsah Community Contra Dances - now on hiatus

These dances used to be on Second Saturdays in historic Farley's Music Hall in "downtown" Elsah, IL.

Lovely Elsah, IL is less than an hour from the Monday Club. It's a real community dance (though lots of St Louis dancers go to it). Kids are welcome and encouraged!

Live Music, excellent callers

The Elsah Folk Dances generally took place on the second Saturday of each month. It was a family-friendly dance, to which you could bring the kids and the whole family! The events were made possible by the Historic Elsah Foundation (HEF).

Directions to Farley's Music Hall:

Most of us take 367 North from 270. That turns into 67.

In Alton, 67 turns left.

Continue onto Route 100, the Great River Road.

Elsah is about 10 miles north of Alton - after you pass Lockhaven start looking for it on your right. It's easy to miss!

After you turn in to Elsah, take the right fork and follow Mill Street for a few blocks. After you pass over a small bridge, Farley's Music Hall is a rectangular building painted yellow-gold on the left.

If there is no parking in front of the building, go around the block to the parking in back. The shortest way is to turn around, then take the first right. If you don't like turning around, turn left at the first possible street, small though it be. You'll go over a one-lane bridge. Then turn left again.

Find the parking lot, park, and walk down the walkway over the stream to get to the front of the building.

Childgrove English Country Dance Schedule

Childgrove English Country Dances are usually (but not always - check below!) on Second and Fourth Fridays

English Country Dancing is an easy, fun, social dance done to live classical music. Although it has a long history, it is a very alive tradition, with new dances and music being written all the time.

We will be having English Country dances with live music on second and fourth Fridays from 7:00-9:30pm with the occasional fancy dress ball (see the schedule) thrown in. Everyone is welcome; all dances are taught and prompted; no partner is required; come alone or bring a friend. First-timers are encouraged to come early for the simpler dances that are taught earlier in the evening.

Wear comfortable clothes and comfortable (flat) shoes. We normally wear casual clothing at our regular dances, and dress up for the balls.

High Tea

Once a year on Labor Day Weekend we held an English Country Dance Weekend called "HIGH TEA" - we bring in a national-level caller and band, and dance Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Stay tuned, and we'll let you know who's playing and calling!
